Welcome to Canberra, The Capital of Australia
I have been living in Canberra for two and half years after meeting my partner in Europe.
Canberra is a relatively small city compared to other major cities like Sydney, yet, it is the heart of Australia. Canberra is the home of innovation and creativity, entrepreneurs and business professionals and the birthplace of some of Australia’s greatest musicians, Nobel prize winners and sporting heroes.
Five reasons why you should visit Canberra;
1 – Cafe Culture
First things first, coffee.
Most people think Melbourne is the Nation’s Cafe Culture but honestly, I have to say Canberra takes the cake on this one. Everywhere you look there is a new cafe opening up with each being as stunning as the last. The brew is always fantastic and Canberra has some of the best baristas who know their Latte from their Flat White.
2 – Nature
No matter where you are in Canberra you’re not very far from a wildlife reserve, walking track or conservation area, where you’ll find an abundance of Australia’s finest wildlife, including Kangaroos, Koalas and Kookaburras. Although, most are friendly, I still wouldn’t recommend trying to get too close unless you visit the Canberra Zoo.
3 – Museums
Canberra has an abundance of museums and art galleries, and the good news is, most of them are free! You can’t tell a local Canberrean you’re from out of town without them asking if you’ve been to Questacon, Canberra’s interactive science museum, one to put on the list of you have a bit of time.
4 – Events
Ok, so being an Event Manager I am all about events, markets, festivals and Canberra does not have a shortage of them. Just about every weekend there is something going on here. With major events including Floriade, The National Multicultural Festival, The Balloon Spectacular, and Spilt Milk (Australia’s hottest new Music Festival).
5 – Wineries and Breweries
One for the lads and the ladies, Canberra is full of local breweries and wineries, With local favourites including; Pialligo Estate, Capital Brewing Co (also home to a Popular burger joint – Brodburger) and Bentspoke Brewing Co. Jam packed day checking out the local attractions? Why not go check them out?
So whether it’s food and wine, events or the outdoors Canberra is the place to be.
If you have a favourite Canberra hot spot I would love to hear about it! Let me know in the comments section.
